I had a house with a very small bathroom. The only storage was the medicine cabinet. But on one wall, a linen closet existed. I opened the wall and put doors on both sides. This way I could access the linen closet from the bathroom, and made better use of it. In my current house I wish I could tear it down to the studs and rebuild it.

We had a deep and useless space in the back of our closet -- it had a clothing rod, so some fancy dresses and other random stuff were hiding back there. It was actually the intersection of two adjacent closets that are at right angles. After 15 years, we finally walled it off from the rest of the closet, then punched into the back of the space from the guest bathroom. Now we have recessed 3'x3'x3' open shelving in that bathroom, which is great for a laundry basket, huge stack of clean towels, and half of our linen closet items (bulk buys of TP and so on).
