Declutter your brain: a more organized home with less thinking
Reduce the mental load to create easy order in your home
I never thought that running my life without having to think would become a core goal in my life. But two kids, a couple mortgages, and a household to run later, here we are. With so much going on, I could easily spend every hour of my day consumed with administrative tasks, but for me this would be unfulfilling. I want to be creative, I want to write, I want to do bigger things than just keep the proverbial lights on.

If I have to problem solve every little thing throughout the day (where are my keys? what do I pack for my son’s lunch? is it time to do laundry? where did the stack of books on the table come from and where do I put it so we can eat dinner?) then I won’t have the mental energy to work on more interesting projects. So in order to do all the things I care about, I have to reduce the mental load required to run my household.
Last week we talked about lifting the load off our working memory, freeing up our brains to work on more complex problems than what was I supposed to get at the grocery store?
This week we’ll extend this idea into how we manage our home. Yes, I run a home organization newsletter, but no, I do not want you spending your life tidying. Let’s find ways to make tidying happen automatically while you work on other stuff.
